Breast cancer is a tumor in the breast that develops when cells divide out of control. We can determine its severity by its four stages.
Signs of breast cancer
Anyone can get breast cancer, but the risk elevates with age. The earliest sign is usually a lump in your breast or underarms. Watch out also for any of these changes:
- Unexplained changes in the size, shape, or appearance of your breast
- Any changes in the skin over your breast, like dimpling, redness, or pitting
- Changes in your nipples or the skin around them, like scaling, crusting, flaking, or if it’s inverted
- Any weird discharge from your nipples that’s not milk
- Pain in any area of your breast, especially your nipples
Remember that these signs can happen with other conditions that are not cancer. Some may even not experience any at all. In case you are anxious, it’s wise to talk to your doctor right away. Early detection can save lives!
There is no singular sorcery that can preclude the onset of breast cancer. Still, there are things you can do to lower your risks, such as staying at a healthy weight or exercising regularly. Plus, try to limit alcohol and hormone drugs and stay away from radiation and tobacco.
It’s also important to get regular breast cancer screenings to catch it early when it’s easiest to treat. Women should start getting mammograms when they hit 50.
Summary
Breast cancer, a progressive disease marked by uncontrolled cell division, can be identified early through changes in breast or nipple appearance. Regular screenings, healthy lifestyle choices, and early detection can reduce risks and enhance survival rates.
